The Loop Book Redesign — Book Design,

The Loop by Patrick T. Reardon explores the history and imapct of the infamous “L” tracks in Chicago which connects all of downtown Chicago to each other as well as the suburbs. This redesign aims to pull the reader deeper into the story of the Chicago Loop by bringing the essence of the city into the book.

This redesign focuses on a the playful and gritty side of Chicago. The covers evoke movement through overlapping bitmap photos while the titles allow a break in the choas with a structured slab serif.

The inner spreads are inspired by a walk in Chicago and what someone might see on the streets. Trash, metro cards, loose change, are arranged throughout the work to emerse the reader in an experience beyond learning about the train system and entering the environment the system is based in.
