The Loop Book Redesign — Book Design,

The Loop by Patrick T. Reardon examines the history and impact of the infamous “L” tracks in Chicago, which connect downtown Chicago to the suburbs and to each other. This redesign aims to pull the reader deeper into the story of the Chicago Loop by bringing the essence of the city into the book.

This redesign focuses on the playful and gritty side of Chicago. The covers evoke movement through overlapping bitmap photos, while the titles allow a break in the chaos with a structured slab serif.

The inner spreads are inspired by a walk in Chicago and what someone might see on the streets. Trash, MetroCards, and loose change are arranged throughout the work to immerse the reader in an experience that extends beyond learning about the train system and entering the environment in which it is based.
